Appeal go-ahead: Dragan Vasiljkovic (Reuters)
A man accused of committing war crimes during the Balkans conflict has
won the right to appeal against his extradition to Croatia, and will be
released from custody.
Dragan Vasiljkovic, also known as Daniel Snedden, was arrested in
Australia in 2006 and held in custody after an extradition request from
Croatia.
He is accused of killing Croatian civilians and instructing others to
kill them when he was a paramilitary commander in Serbia.
He lost one appeal against the extradition request, but today the
Federal Court in Sydney has ruled that he is allowed to appeal, and
that he should be released from custody.
